Every time I find my relative he is listed always as EC Beard or Edmund C. Beard. He was in the military and was stationed at Ft. Hawkins in Macon. He remained in the area after his service. He was the first sheriff of Houston County and also Bibb County. He moved to Sumter Co. around 1830, he then won land in Stewart Co. where he lived out the rest of his years. His son EC Jr. moved back to Sumter Co. where he died. Edmund C. Beard was always a Sheriff, JP, or other official. When he won the land he is listed as being from Morgan Co. I don't know if this info will help. But if I find more I will post it.
