Subject: [GAMORGAN] Head-Gaar
Date: Mon, 4 Sep 2006 22:42:35 EDT
Picking up from where I got side tracked in Mar (farming, sorry) I hope I
finally have some time to work on the Head-Gaar problem.
>From my research in the 1949 book "Descent of Henry Head 1695-1949 in
America by Idress Head Alvord -- which I have input the parts that fit my family
into my database ....
>From Mar 2006 email: The Lucy Head Gaar listed below is the daughter of
Benjamin Head and Margaret Gaar.
According to the book, "my" James Head was her brother. However also
according to the book they say James was married more than one and neither was
listed as the wife or children I have found to be my James. I really think the
James were mixed up (page 60) It just does not fit and I need help.
My references for my family are:
1. 1850 Morgan Co. GA (page 125 line 10) age 45 GA farmer w/Permlia and 6
liv/next door to: Marshall & Matilda Head
2. I NEED to find them in the 1860 census
3. 1870 Winn Parish, LA census Ward 9 #11. Penna Head age 50 SC. with
daugh; Clementine age 13 GA. [This would be Permelia Stevens]
4. 1900 Winn LA wd7#44 Head, David C. born Mar 1845 age "45" m31 GA AL MS
[This is the son of James Head. Notice he said that he was born Ga, his
father born Alabama and his mother born Mississippi. Every census was different
except in 1920 when he was 75 years of age, he gave GA, AL MS again. [Actually
every census I saw Pemerlia Steven Head in gave SC as her place of birth.]
Wondering who gave David's information to the census taker!
I do think the Head book by Mrs Alvord has some mixed up information and I
really need help figuring this out. Hopefully we have more information now than
she had in 1949.
I have been told that Benjamin Head and Margaret Gaar is my James Head's
parents. David (son of James, as well as his mother -Permilia Stevens Head-and
some siblings) came to Winn Parish, La. along with Lucy (James' sister that
married the Gaar.)
I am just now getting into the Head-Gaar connection.
Anyone that can help can write me privately.
