At this special season of the year, I'd like to salute my gg-grandfather,
William Franklin Jones (1835-c.1900), Wilkinson County, GA who served in
Company I, 57th Georgia Regiment. He was the son of John Gabriel Jones
(1801-1881) and Nancy Underwood Jones and grandson of Joseph Jones who died
in Wilkinson County in 1827. He married Elizabeth Mildred Slade Nov. 7,
1858, dtr. of Joseph Slade and Celia ?.

Franklin Jones was a POW twice. He unit was captured at the Seige of
Vicksburg and exhanged. He later participated with Company I in the Battle
at Kennesaw Mountain. He was captured again in December 1864 and held at
Camp Chase, Oh until his release and signing the Oath of Allegiance in June
1865 (some books incorrectly list he died at Camp Chase).
