Herb,
Thank you for your reply. John Jr. (if this is in fact my family) married Almena Elliott. She was born 1822 in Morgan Co. Her parents were James Elliott and Matilda --?. I have the 1840 census for Morgan Co that lists my John Johnson and the next listing is James Elliott b. in Floyd Co. The migration of the Elliots - James' father from Virginia. His father was born on a ship enroute to America from Ireland. I also a lot of data on Johnston and Johnson from Scotland, Pa, Va, North Carolina, Tenn, Ohio and Kentucky. I have not worked closely on the exact dates of movement but it was Scotland to Va in about 1620, to North Carolina about 1700, to Ohio and Kentucky mid 1700's, to Tenn mid 1800's. Missouri after that (which is were I was born). So many family members going in different directions. So John Sr. may have beem from, Va or North Carolina. I have names, birth/places for all of John Jr. children. Including a dau born before he married Almena (according to 3 census)!
. More questions than answers. If I can give you any more info let me know.
