Hello Tom:

A second welcome to the TIGS mailing list.

You have two great names in your family line - McGrath and Kennedy.

My grandfather THOMAS McGRATH, from Thurles, Tipperary, Ireland came to Troy
around 1891 with his wife NORA KENNEDY, also from Thurles. Two siblings of
my grandfather also came to Troy around the same time, a brother PATRICK
McGRATH and a sister BRIDGET McGRATH. Parents in Ireland were JOHN McGRATH
and JOHANNA HAYES.

Patrick married a Catherine R. Leonard in Troy and Bridget married a John J.
Gleason in Troy.

All three McGrath's died in Troy; Patrick on April 20, 1943, Thomas on May
20, 1949 and Bridget on March 11, 1952. The obituary for all three mention a
brother John in Ireland. Also, in the list of pall bearors at the funerals,
was a WILLIAM McGRATH identified as a nephew.

I have yet to discover who this William McGrath was and how he was a nephew
to my three McGraths. Was he really a nephew or just a friend of the
family. Also, when my father JAMES McGRATH was baptized in 1900, his
godfather was a DANIEL McGRATH. I do not know if Daniel was a friend of the
family or a relative.

Also unknown is why the McGraths came to Troy. Were there other relatives
there already?

Regards,

Bill McGrath
