The idea of a silent auction is a good one. I volunteer at Davis and Elkin's
Augusta Heritage Center Irish Week each year. They run a successful silent
auction during the week ending at the Thursday Night concert. Another group
I belong to accepts donated books related to archaeolgy or history, puts a
price on them, and sells them at various workshops and meetings throughout
the year. Both these ideas require volunteers to access items and in one
case put a reasonable "deal" price on the items. They both assume enough
participants to make it work.

Books could probably be listed on the Troy site with a price to include
postage.

In the end I have no problem with a reasonable dues increase. If it's worth
having it's worth something.
