NEW TIGS RESOURCE HAS BEEN ADDED TO WEBSITE

TIGS is happy to announce a new resource for our list members. We have compiled an "Irish Act of Kindness" page for our website. All of the look-up participants are wonderful volunteers who have willingly agreed to do look-ups from sources they own, subscribe to or have access to.

Click on: "RESOURCES" and then click on: "Look-ups - TIGS "Irish Act of Kindness" List." Then at the bottom of the introduction page, click on: "Click Here for the Complete Volunteer look-ups Listing."

The sources are varied and fortunately numerous. There are over 70 resources available which have been broken them down into the following categories:

Church Records

Cemetery Records

Immigration Records

City Directory's

Irish Resources

School Records

Local History

Miscellaneous

Other

We want to stress that this is a volunteer project and ask all list members to also be kind and not overwhelm our volunteers. Please limit your requests where possible, be specific as to first name and surname when you can, and try not to ask for more that two surnames in each e-mail. Please don't go on a fishing expedition and just throw out surnames. You should have some concrete rationale for thinking you may find your ancestor in the source being requested.

Remember that volunteers have their own research to work on in addition to jobs and family to tend to, so have patience if you do not get a quick response. Since we fully expect our TIGS list members to utilize these volunteers, we are at this time only announcing this project on the TIGS mailing list. We would like to gauge the amount of requests prior to announcing the new service on any other lists. We don't want to exhaust our volunteers and perhaps lose some of them.

This list is not complete and we can add resources as list members let us know about them. Please e-mail Kris Ayotte if you have a source you think might be appropriate to add to what we hope will be a great success and perhaps help knock down a few brick walls for our members.

Finally on behalf of all TIGS members we want to sincerely thank the volunteers for agreeing to partake in this project.

And a special thanks goes to TIGS member Kris Cooney-Ayotte who developed this project. Kris made all the arrangements with the volunteers and did a wonderful job in arranging and formatting the records for this new TIGS service. And of course, thanks to our webmaster Jeanne Keefe for her expertise in adding this section to the TIGS website.
