What I was told by Bernadette last summer, the Albany Diocese decided to allow this group to come into the church and remove the records for transcription. It might seem to some people that Bernadette is uncooperative, but she can only work with the information available to her and for an extremely long time, these documents have been out of her hands. I have not heard the status of the transcription project but was disappointed to hear that the group of volunteers transcribing them will charge a fee to review them once the project is completed. Also in the past people were allowed to review documents unsupervised and there are many pages of information now missing. Individuals are no longer allowed to look information up themselves because of this. (I can't blame the church for protecting documents that are irreplaceable).
