Hi All
The reason I give the ethnicity is because one of the main reasons people
come to this website, myself included, is to search for their ancestors that
lived in Troy. They might only have a nationality and a name to go by, or a
street, or a place of employment. I try to give any info that would help
identify their relatives. The current Record reporter actually addressed the issue
of identifying nationalities in the paper and said that in the early 1900's
the spelling of ethnic names was sometimes dubious and thought the nationality
might help.
He also said this is the kind of reporting that was done in the early
1900's. These articles are from 100 years ago-things change ,including styles of
reporting.

The reason I include the murders,assaults-the bad news- is because our
relatives are what they are. In researching my background so far I found a cousin
in Texas who was an outlaw-Black Jack Ketchum-who was hanged for murder. I
also have General Ulysses S Grant as a cousin. The relatives are good and bad,
and I would rather know who they were than not ever trace them.

I am VERY grateful to the Troy Record for publishing these articles from 100
years ago. From the many emails I get a lot of you are finding relatives or
people you know in them. That's what this Irish website is all about - they
are hard working and dedicated and they do a wonderful job.
PS My husband and children are Italian-there is no intention to slur ANY
nationality in these articles Joyce

of a few. I had never heard Irish never cared for Italians or Syrians.I grew
up in NJ and we all got along pretty well. Many of my friends were
Italian-American. Perhaps the newspaper was amiss in mentioning the ethnicity of the
persons involved.Lois in AZ
