Hi, Bill and all,
I was delighted to find the obit of my greatgrandfather, Timothy McAuliffe,
in the Troy newspaper. He was a mason and a builder and at the time of his
death was over-seeing the construction of St. Lawrence Church in Troy. My sister
and I went to the church on a Sunday, hoping it would be open, and it was;
however, it seemed most of the interior had been painted over and it was very
plain---much to our disappointment. I think your suggestion about recording
memorials in the churches is excellent and of great import. I just hope it is
not too late.
My McA. family attended St. Mary's Church, and while there I saw an
exquisitely carved baptismal font made of wood. I asked the church secretary about
it, but there was no information that she knew about in their records.One can
only hope that all those church records will be saved for history's sake.
