Hi Lynn,
I'm interested in your O'Brien kin. My Troy connection is as follows:
John O'Brien, born abt 1820 in Ireland. He was a carpenter.
He married Margaret Lynch (born Ireland about 1835) about 1853,
according to my great Aunt Frances, who was pretty accurate. She
didn't say where, however. I have their wedding picture, with
absolutely NO information! So it could be Ireland, Troy, or anywhere
in between.
They had twins, Michael and Elizabeth, (my great-grandmother), in
Troy either the third of May 1856, or 1854. Two family copyists
copied differently and Aunt Frances was dead by then.
They are on the 1860 census in Chicago. They died sometime during
the 1860s there and were buried in the Old Cith cemetery, whose
bodies were removed to make Lincoln Park. The bodies were dumped -
and I do mean dumped! - in Calvary cemetery in Evanston IL. They kept
practically no records, so I have no burial records on them. There
were a lot of Lynches and O'Briens in Troy at that time and I keep
hoping I'll find a connection, but so far no go.
I did find a "John O'Brian, carpenter", listed in the Green Island
Directory for 1854-55. I realize that is Albany County, but this was
at the back of the Troy City Directory, (1854 C. L. MacArthur Troy
City Directory).
Anybody with any insights - I'd sure appreciate hearing from you!
