“The Law and Order League of Rensselaer County holds a series of meetings
in local churches today to pressure city officials to enforce public
morals, The Record reports.“Hebrew, Catholic and Protestant will agree with me
that Troy’s material and intellectual development will be of little profit or
blessing unless her moral growth is commensurate,”says Rev. George Mayer
at the main meeting at Association
Hall. The pastor of Grace Methodist Church speaks on “New Troy, or Fair
Play in Our Municipality.”

“Two years ago, the city of Troy launched a major public-awareness
campaign to combat the spread of tuberculosis. Municipal leaders from through out
the Capital District meet in Troy today to report on their progress, The
Record reports.Mayor Elias P. Mann presides at a public meeting of the Troy
Tuberculosis Relief Committee in the Supreme Court chamber of the Rensselaer
County Court House. “We know that conditions have much improved in two
years,” the mayor says during his introductory remarks, “by the operation of
a recent law which requires the registration of new cases, by greater
attention on the part of the bureau of public health as represented by the
health officer and Bacteriologist Dr. Casey, and by the expenditure of money.
Communities must address the three real causes of tuberculosis,according to
Rev. Richard H.Nelson, bishop co-adjutor of the diocese of Albany.John A.
Kingsley of the State Charities Association closes the meeting by reminding
the mayor that “the Troy Tuberculosis Relief Committee has been obliged to
work almost solely without official support.” Nevertheless, “the Trojans
are to be congratulated upon having the work so well started.”
