This is a LOOONG shot but have you tried looking for your family under the
name of Backhouse?

Some time ago I was corresponding with a man who was searching for
"Backus/Backhouse" - that is how his query read. And I believe the family he
was looking for were Quakers. Try <A HREF="www.quakerroots.com">www.quakerroots.com</A> and see if you find
anything.

It might be worth a try. Sometimes surnames got really twisted around for
one reason or another.
